Dr. Silvia Birklein is a seasoned clinical psychologist, psychoanalyst, dance movement therapist, and movement analyst. As the Founder and Clinical Director of SYNC Psychological Services, PLLC, and SYNC SOMATICS ™l Services, PLLC, (+Embodied Psychotherapy and Supervision), she brings more than three decades of experience to her group private practice and training facility spread across New York City, Kingston, and Syracuse.

Her journey encompasses diverse roles in several psychiatric hospitals, clinics, and counseling centers. Her work has extended into the realm of Reality TV shows where she provided psychological consultancy.

Moreover, Dr. Birklein holds roles as a clinical consultant at the NYU Postdoctoral Program for Psychoanalysis (Relational Track), and Supervisor and Faculty at Pace University, The New School University, and the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP).

Internationally, she has lent her expertise to the Apollo Institute and the SINO Center for Mother/Infant Mental Health in Beijing, where she analyzes parent/child videos and educates on attachment, developmental, psychoanalytic, and relational/intersubjectivity theories and interventions.

Dr. Birklein has received training at a variety of institutions around the globe, including:
the Institute for Critical Psychology at the Freie University in Berlin (BA), the Fritz Perls Institute in Germany, the Alice Solomon University in Berlin (Social Work/ Pedagogics), Antioch Graduate School, (MA), The New School for Social Research (MA, PhD), and postgraduate training at the William Alanson White Institute and the NYU Postdoctoral Program for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She also holds a degree in Dance, Performance Arts, and Dance Education from Berlin, a certificate in Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and the Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP), and is trained in many somatic practices and approaches.

Her research focus is the inter-generational transmission of affect, the body, and movement in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, particularly on trauma, PTSD, and the nonverbal/non–semantic aspects in the clinical setting.

Dr. Birklein specializes in Relational Psychoanalysis and Body and Movement/Somatic Pratices in psychoanalytic contexts and offers psychodynamic, relational psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis as well as body/movement–informed psychotherapy.

She opens her doors to all populations, including artists, international clients, queer, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and/or trans., athletes; she is experienced in dealing with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationships, cultural transitions, and pain issues among others.
